Frank Zappa about Norm, Deviation and Progress
From a man who knows very well about deviation from the norm in music:
Norm and deviation are a pivotal subject in my life. Normative forces in society are very strong and it’s not easy to free yourself from them. But the knowledge, that personal development is impossible without deviation from the norm, is disturbing and comforting at the same time.Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible.
